Pro Tip: Unwinding a Bobbin

I’m sure we all have our way of getting thread off a bobbin, but I thought Sean’s way was clever.  I love how the thread goes straight into the trash can.  I usually throw my bobbins in a cup, and there’s nothing wrong with that method. However, the static electricity in the air this winter was making the thread cling to my hand, clothes, and everything.  Needless to say, I was very intrigued with his method, and kind of frustrated with mine.

To unwind the bobbin quickly, place it on a chop stick, skewer, or another semirigid poking implement.

Next, use your thumb to prevent the bobbin from getting stuck on the thick end, and your index finger to keep it from flying off. Think of them as bumpers.

Finally, gently pull the thread downward into your trash can. Don’t pull too hard, or the thread will wrap around the stick instead.

This method is great because it’s quick, quiet and clean. You’ll be stitching the next part of your Daffodil Delight Table Runner in no time.
